Courant mars, France 2 programmera un documentaire de Christophe Nick, le "Jeu de la mort", qui interroge le téléspectateur sur le pouvoir destructeur de la télévision.
"Ce que nous allons regarder est extrêmement dur. Il ne s’agit pas que de télévision et de divertissement". Ainsi commence le documentaire de Christophe Nick, le Jeu de la mort, qui sera diffusé en mars sur France 2. Dans ce film, qui a été présenté lundi à la presse, ce que l’on voit est en effet à peine croyable. 80 candidats sont retenus pour un jeu télévisé appelé "la zone extrême". Chacun est reçu par le producteur qui lui dit qu’il s’agit de tourner un pilote d’une émission de jeu dont les règles sont encore à définir. Le candidat devra retenir des associations de mots qu’un autre candidat, appelé le questionneur, lui demandera de restituer. En cas de mauvaise réponse, le questionneur enverra une punition… oh trois fois rien un petit châtiment corporel, un choc électrique.

« La télévision peut faire faire n’importe quoi à n’importe qui », résume Christophe Nick. Mais où est-il allé chercher ces candidats un brin sadiques ? « Ce sont des gens comme nous qui ne sont pas armés pour résister au pouvoir de la télé. Et qui abandonnent leur libre-arbitre », affirme le producteur. Voilà qui fait froid dans le dos. Le film va très loin ; et des biais peuvent sans doute être trouvés à l’expérience comme une représentativité qui se limite à des candidats aux jeux, lesquels se retrouvent plongés dans un univers ludique qui leur paraît irréel. Seront-ils demain, ces apprentis bourreaux, voués aux gémonies après leur passage à la télé publique ?
Incontestablement, le film a le mérite de nous interroger sur le pouvoir destructeur du petit écran.
